The Lakeland Model Village
At the Lakeland Model Village we believe tourism should leave a place better than it was found.
At the Lakeland Model Village we believe tourism should leave a place better than it was found. We have introduced a "No-Petrol" policy, where our gardeners utilize traditional hand tools and electric equipment to maintain the village. To decarbonize visitor mobility, we offer Active Travel Incentives: anyone arriving by foot or bicycle receives a complimentary soft drink at the Damson Dene bar, turning a sustainable choice into a delightful customer "extra."
Our circular economy practices are embedded in our maintenance: we use only reclaimed or "off-cut" stone from local quarries for repairs, ensuring zero new extraction. Our biodiversity actions go beyond aesthetics; we have introduced "The Damson Dene Insect Hotel" and nesting boxes designed as miniature Lakeland chimneys. By committing to 100% peat-free soil, we directly support the protection of Cumbria’s vital carbon-sequestering peat bogs.
